Cat the Science Tutor
Oxford
I tutor GCSE Science and A-Level Biology, Chemistry & Physics
I’d love to work with you.
I am Cat, and I think Science is awesome
It is an incredible and fascinating subject which deepens our understanding of the world we live in.
Whoever you are, and wherever you want to go in life, a good Science qualification can help you to get there.
Perhaps you want to be a doctor or a vet, have aspirations of going to space or finding a cure for cancer, or just love Science and don’t or can’t get enough of it at school. I can help you get the grades you want and need.
Perhaps Science isn’t really your thing, but you want to do the best you possibly can while you still have to study it. I can help you – and maybe make Science a bit more enjoyable for you too.
Perhaps you have no idea what you want to do (this is normal, and totally fine!) – well, studying Science can help you keep your options open. I can help you get the best grades you can so the world really is your oyster.
Most often, people choose a tutor to enable them to do better, to provide them with additional support, or to stretch and challenge them.
Why Choose to Have Tutoring?
There are lots of reasons people choose to have tutoring – for example:
- Wanting to do better and exceed targets
- Wanting more time to have things explained and to ask questions
- Furthering knowledge and understanding
- Additional support for special educational needs
- Additional support following or during an illness which means school time has been or is being missed
- Just wanting to know more…
The truth is, there are a million (approximately) individual reasons why you might decide you need a tutor, and whatever the situation is, I’m confident I can accommodate you.
Whatever it is that has brought you to look for a Science tutor, we can work together to achieve your goals.
“…Cat has given my daughter confidence to tackle the harder questions that she previously thought were beyond her. I only wish we had found Cat sooner!”

About Me
I spent 4 years studying at the University of Oxford, graduating with a Masters in Chemistry in 2010.
Following this, I spent a year as a teaching assistant supporting students with SEN, before training as a teacher in Swindon, completing my PGCE with the University of Bath. I then taught in several very different state secondary schools. I established Cat the Science Tutor in 2017, and haven’t looked back! I love working 1:1 with my students, enabling them to achieve their goals. Each and every one is amazing and unique.
I’ve seen teaching go through a number of changes, especially to curricula and specifications, and experienced first-hand the destabilising effect it can have on students. Covid-19 has been one of the hardest things students have had to endure in a very long time, adding huge additional stress and uncertainty into what is already a challenging time in life.
Crucially for you though, aside from being an experienced teacher, I am also familiar with the changes in the latest specifications having taught them in the classroom already, and with the new grading system. (Importantly in Science, I also know the assessed practicals following the move away from coursework.)
I studied, live, and work in Oxford, and have several cats.
